We are pleased to announce that our team has grown again this year. EA Systems Dresden GmbH supervised Dipl.-Ing. Sven Juhler’s diploma thesis and defense on Case-Based Selection of Control Strategies to Optimize Building Consumption. The thesis investigated whether a model-based algorithm operating on the principle of case-based reasoning (CBR, see figure) could be used to optimize consumption in buildings. The heating concept of Giebelstadt primary school served as the optimization example.

Case-Based Selection of Control Strategies to Optimize Building Consumption

A simulation-based case study over two years identified similarity and performance characteristics that could be used in the CBR algorithm to optimize heating plant controls. Total energy consumption was reduced slightly compared with the alternative reference scenarios, while costs were reduced by up to 10%. EA Systems Dresden GmbH thanks Prof. Clemens Felsmann and Dr. Paul Seidel (TU Dresden, Chair of Building Energy Systems and Heat Supply) for supervising the diploma thesis.
