Airloop – Connecting Building and Plant Simulation Intelligently

Specialized tools with different focuses are available for simulating physical and technical processes in building energy systems. The Green City Library focuses particularly on plant equipment and represents fundamental thermal processes such as convection, thermal radiation, shading, and internal loads. The BIM HVACTool from TIAN Building Engineering also calculates detailed processes within building zones.

Building and ventilation model in the Airloop project

Airloop combines these strengths. Building on the Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) interfaces tested in the EnTool:CoSim research project, detailed building simulation in BIM HVACTool is extended with standard ventilation systems from Modelica/SimulationX and the associated air distribution infrastructure.

The Project Includes the Following Work Packages

  • Extending the NANDRAD simulation core at project partner TU Dresden with air distribution systems
  • Extending and advancing model components for ventilation systems at EA Systems
  • Coordinating a powerful, user-friendly interface concept between the systems
  • Creating a selection of ventilation system templates and testing them with example building models
