A Control Concept for Two Heat Generation Sites
This project developed a control concept for a district heating network in Bad Langensalza. An existing network model was updated and used to evaluate the hydraulics at critical network points. The challenge was the complex network structure: the district heating network consists of several, partly overlapping loops. Two feed-in points are also defined.
These were to be switched on and off according to a specified priority. Switching between the feed-in points requires particular attention to hydraulics, as incorrect implementation can damage circulation pumps. In practice, these switching operations had previously been performed by district heating specialists with many years of experience with the network. Their experience, combined with the results of EASD’s district heating simulation, now forms the basis of the new control concept.
The project defined control sequences, required measurement values, control variables, and setpoints. Network simulation also calculated hydraulic parameters at critical points. These provide the project partners with a basis for further sizing and design planning.
