Optimizing a Research Greenhouse’s Energy Supply
The new iDiv research greenhouse at Leipzig University allows crops from around the world to be cultivated in twelve large, independently climate-controlled areas. The researchers and Saxony’s state property administration (SIB) aim to demonstrate how the energy demand of such greenhouses can be reduced by 50%. The new concept centers on optimal coordination of free cooling, solar thermal cooling, and district heating use.
EA Systems Dresden supports the building planners in sizing and parameterizing the energy supply concept. Detailed dynamic energy simulation with the Green Building Library is an important tool. Modeling the plants and the planned control strategy provided model-based evidence that the design objectives were met.
Our Services
- Assessment of the emissions savings potential of a modern system and plant concept compared with the reference solution (validation of planning using new simulation methods)
- Support in developing the monitoring concept during the design phase
- Development of optimization alternatives for the plant concept (design phase)
Our Results
- Validation of the designed system concept against the required savings targets
- Detailed optimization of solar thermal and free cooling use within the plant concept
- EnOB-compliant monitoring concept
