FMI4Practice – Integrated Building Simulation for Planning
FMI4Practice makes integrated building simulation usable as a tool for the planning process. The approach adopts the building-centered perspective of architecture: the building is modeled through a three-dimensional graphical interface, while pre-modeled building services components are integrated through FMI co-simulation. A pilot implementation automates the required steps.
The result is a standardized technology for practical use in building planning that connects simulators from different specialist domains.
EA Systems’ Contribution
EA Systems contributes extensive practical experience in Modelica-based simulation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, as well as electricity supply and storage systems. This expertise provides the foundation for extending integrated building simulation with NANDRAD, BIM HVACTool, and MasterSim.
The project first designs and specifies the interfaces between building-centered simulation tools and plant equipment coupled through FMI. This includes, in particular, consistent naming and typing of exchanged quantities.
On this basis, suitable templates combining model components are created in the Modelica simulation environment SimulationX with Green City. They are provided as standalone Functional Mock-up Units (FMUs) for coupling with building simulation. Practical example models are then used to test and assess the coupling and optimize it against defined accuracy and performance criteria.
