Investigating Domestic Hot Water Heating From District Heat Dynamically

YADOS GmbH is among Europe’s leading specialists in local and district heating technology. Regarding its technical solutions, the question arose whether a specific configuration and control strategy for domestic hot water heating in the YADOS system could enable efficient use of heating water, allowing lower temperatures and volume flows in the district heating network throughout the year.

EA Systems Dresden was commissioned to conduct a study of the dynamic temperature behavior during domestic hot water heating. The focus is on investigating temperatures and volume flows to demonstrate the advantages of the new YADOS-RA system over comparable YADOS solutions. Different alternatives and system configurations are to be compared, tested, and assessed using dynamic simulation models.

Using system models from EASD’s own Green City Library, the different system configurations were implemented as dynamic simulation models. These include both the dynamic and thermal loads to be assessed and the relevant technical components, their interconnections, and controls.

The simulation results were then analyzed and assessed against the outcomes relevant to YADOS. Suggestions were also prepared for optimizing the relevant system configurations or controls where indicated by the simulation results.
